Heylo everyone. If you are dying to see a blog entry from me, here is one. TA-DA! World AIDS Day is observed on the 1st of December every year. The day is dedicated to raise awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. People hold memorials to hounour persons who have died from the disease. Government officials and health officials also support this event with speeches or forums on AIDS topic.
AIDS had killed more than 25 million people between 1981 and 2007. An estimated 33.2 million people worldwide live with HIV in 2007. That is more than six times of Singapore's population! AIDS is arguably the deadliest disease in the world.
The founder of World AIDS Day is James W. Bunn and Thomas Netter, two public information officers for the Global Programme on AIDS . Dr. Jonathan Mann, Director of the Global Programme on AIDS(now known as UNAIDS) liked the idea and announced that 1st December World AIDS Day.
